Visions First Snow Ski Races, Les Menuires, France

  • Where?

For 2020 the event will be held in Les Menuires, France, part of the world’s largest ski area, Les 3 Vallées. Well-connected to the busier Val Thorens and Meribel, school groups will be able to enjoy a full range of pistes as they explore the mountains the day following the races.

The races will be staged at the Stade de Slalom Olympique which has recently hosted the French downhill ski championships. The great advantage of this FIS-certified facility is the technology at hand to accurately record and simultaneously announce race times to eager competitors as they finish.

All our school groups will all stay at the Villages Clubs du Soleil hotel, which we have already secured exclusive use of for 2020. Our 2019 ski groups enjoyed making new friends from other schools, which made the success all the more satisfying and the races even more competitive! The 4-star hotel, which boasts stunning views over the valley, will open for us at the beginning of the next ski season, and it is adjacent to the Stade de Slalom Olympique. We will provide regular transport to the nearby village of Les Menuires. Ski fit is in the hotel and warm lockers are available for the safe storage of all ski equipment. There is also free wifi.

    When?

The First Snow Ski Races is an annual event. The dates for this year are 12 to 18 December 2020.

    What?

The Visions First Snow Ski Races in partnership with ESI Meribel is a great opportunity for some early season racing for any keen racers, and also a great introduction to racing for anyone looking to give it a go or just get into the sport. Some schools see it as a training camp, and others as more of an introduction to ski racing.

The ski race categories are as follows: Individual Slalom, Team Parallel Slalom, Giant Slalom

The Championships run for 5 nights and 6 days. This includes 3 days of ski race training and 2 days of competition. The event closes with a prize-giving ceremony.

The Visions First Snow Ski Races in partnership with ESI Meribel provides the perfect opportunity for pre-Christmas skiing at this well-established resort. Seasoned racers are welcome, as are first-time ski racers making their debut – everybody starts somewhere and what a place to start!

There will be one whole day of ski race training, then each subsequent day is training in the morning and racing in the afternoon. The last day is for each group to explore more of the resort with their ski instructor. Prizes are awarded following completion of all events.

  • Who?

If you are aged 8-18 and would love to race against age-matched competition on the ski slopes, then First Snow Ski Races is just the ticket.

The event is open to all youth racers who want to enjoy the experience of racing their peers on the mountain. The 2019 participating schools have all expressed a keen interest in reuniting with us for 2020, so we have room for just a few more.

    Disciplines

The event is run for Boys, Girls and Juniors and features giant slalom and slalom events (with team and individual prizes), as well as Seniors and Juniors parallel team slalom.
