Since the early 1990s many British car marques have been acquired by foreign manufacturers, but car production still goes on and the heritage of British car design is still clearly visible in the output of our featured factories of Lotus, Jaguar and Morgan.
Our tour starts in Norfolk, home of Lotus cars. A guided tour around the factory’s assembly line is the perfect way to learn about car manufacture. After an in-depth private workshop with a Lotus engineer, we head off to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, Britain's best-preserved WW2 airfield and RAF fighter station, where you will see historic aircraft such as the B-52, Spitfire and Concorde and walk in the footsteps of Battle of Britain’s ace pilot Douglas Bader. Next up is Jaguar Land Rover, two of the UK’s most successful car manufacturers; tour the factory, engage in challenging engineering activities and have a Q&A with a Jaguar Land Rover engineer.
On our last day we visit the Coventry Transport Museum, the largest collection of British cars, motorbikes and bicycles in the world: experience what it is like to travel at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator! Finally, we visit The Morgan Motor company, the last remaining family-owned, independent, innovative British motor manufacturer; for over 100 years Morgan has been making coach-built cars, the latest being the retro-looking Aero 8. You’ll be driven to distraction!
